At Redlynch State College we foster creative, engaged and globally-ready learners through the delivery of personalised, inclusive, flexible and innovative approaches and environments.
To action this we are moving towards a BYOx model for electronic devices for all students in the College, the 'x' in BYOx stands for the entire package including the device, software, physical bag/case, insurance, apps etc. Part of the process involves upskilling teachers and identifying student groups to pilot the use of technologies throughout the curriculum with the eventual aim of having all students with a BYO device from Prep through to Year 12.
Primary Campus
2016 saw the roll out of iPads to teachers and a program of professional learning in digital pedagogy for staff. Our iPad fleet, currently 70 devices, are available for classroom use on a borrowing basis. In 2019 we will increase the number of teacher devices and continue to grow our fleet of school owned iPads for classroom use. In 2019 we will have BYO classes in Years 1 to 6.
What will be available for my student in 2019?
In 2019 students in Prep Years 1 to 6 will have the opportunity to participate in a BYO iPad class. Expression of interest to participate will be available from the P-6 Office or may be downloaded from the “Related Links” section of this page. Please note that submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee your child a place in a BYO class.
All other students will have access to the school owned iPads for classroom use.
How do I access the BYO program?
Your first step is to read and sign the program charter and agreement. This can be accessed through the related links to the right of this page. Expression of interest forms are also available in this area, along with further information for your interest.
How will the College manage internet security and suitable use?
Any student connecting to the College's network will enjoy a secure and filtered access to the internet. Students will still be required to adhere to the Acceptable Use Agreement when using ICT devices at the College.
Will these devices be kept secure?
During the school day devices will be locked in a secure storage in the classroom when not in use. It is a requirement that devices have a protective case and waterproof sleeve for transit to and from school.
Device specifications
All Apple iPad Air or more recent device. Devices should have WiFi but not 3G/4G. We recommend iPad Air device with at least 32GB storage, although all storage versions are supported in the program.
How will the device be managed?
The device will be managed at home, however we can provide some basic technical support at school if the need arises. E.g. connection issues and basic troubleshooting. The list of required apps will be provided to parents on confirmation of their child being awarded a place in a BYO class. Installation of required apps is a requirement for a placement in a BYO class.
What does participation cost?
Network and platform maintenance cost to support the successful operation of the iPad devices at school will incur a fee of $50 per year. Hardware issues are the responsibility of parents.
Has the school negotiated any special deals?
The short answer is no, however CompNow have approached us with the opportunity for parents to purchase commercial grade devices directly from them using "Parent Portals".
The devices that can be purchased from this parent portal are the same devices that the school is able to purchase. All devices have been vetted by the school and anything that is available form the parent portal is appropriate to use at school.
Parents also have the option of purchasing insurance, protective casing and peripherals.
While you are able to purchase any device that meets our requirements from anywhere you desire, we do recommend looking at the parent portal and using it as a guide in your decision making.
