Personality determines career success
We know that matching what you’re naturally good at with careers that require those skills is logical, but it’s not a connection that is obvious to all. After all, having an interest in a career or course doesn’t always mean that you're going to be good at it. In the workplace, personality strengths are directly correlated with career achievement and whether you’re happy and fulfilled in your job. The better your career fits who you are, the more quickly you’ll reach your goals. That also extends to educational choices for students.
Career development is about recognising your strengths and personal attributes. Develop your sense of self by being involved in work experience, excursions to Universities, TAFE and Career Expo’s.

The changing nature of life, learning and work
Over the last decade it has become evident that the way we live and work has been dramatically altered by factors such as globalisation, the rapid increases in information and communications technology and significant demographic shifts.
The concept of a ‘job for life’ no longer exists. Most individuals will change jobs numerous times throughout their working lives.
There has been a trend away from permanent employment to more varied working arrangements such as contract and project work.
Gone are the days where a person could gain a single qualification which would sustain them throughout their entire working lives.
In addition to job-related skills, individuals now need skills such as communication, problem solving, teamwork and personal attributes such as adaptability, resilience, enthusiasm and openness to new ideas.
In an environment where individuals are likely to transition between a variety of life, learning and work roles, they need to be empowered to design and manage their careers. In the face of increasing choices and challenges, some people lose their way or give up. Those that flourish are self-managing individuals who know their strengths and their limitations, have the confidence to follow their dreams and are willing to seek help from and to support the career journeys of others.

Work Experience
Students will have the opportunity to do Work Experience in Years 10/11/12, in any of the three Term breaks, or negotiated at alternate times throughout the year. Redlynch State College encourages all Senior Students to participate in Work Experience.
It is invaluable for students to investigate and sample an area of work that they may have an interest in for the future.
For those students in Year 10 the process also assists parents and students with subject selections in Years 11 & 12.
Subject selections are made during Term 3, so to gain the most advantage from Work Experience, it is preferable that students complete Work Experience in the school holidays where possible.
