
The RSC Outdoor Education Program (ORE) offers students in Years 7-10 the opportunity to integrate their learning with the outdoor environment. The outdoor activities students are exposed to provide an enriched learning environment thus student engagement is heightened.
The outdoor program meets the curricular content for HPE and plays a vital role in shaping positive attitudes in students with regards to health and wellbeing. In addition to meeting curriculum requirements, Outdoor Education:
- introduces students to a variety of outdoor activitiesassists students to develop a greater understanding of the natural world
- provides many opportunities for personal growth helps develop leadership, collaboration and resilience supports healthy risk-taking behaviour.
Skills and knowledge will be developed through theoretical and practical learning. Year 8 to 10 students will attend at least one overnight camp a year.
Some of the outdoor activities across the program (Years 7 to 10) include:
- Swift water rescue on the Tully River Hiking the Douglas track
- Hiking Mt Bartle Frere
- 5 day hike Bridle Creek Road
- Atherton Mountain bike trails
- Climbing and abseiling at Northern Outlook
Students in Years 7 to 10 have the opportunity to elect this subject.
