In English, students will learn to:
  • communicate effectively in Standard Australian
    English for a range of social and cultural purposes
    and audiences
  • enjoy and appreciate a range of texts, including Australian texts by First Nation authors, poets, and directors
  • study closely a range of literary and non-literary
  • works in English, in various types of texts, modes and mediums across diverse cultures and periods
  • interpret, analyse, evaluate, respond to and construct a wide range of texts through reading
  • listening, viewing, speaking, writing and shaping
  • make choices about generic structures, language, textual features and technologies to best
  • convey intended meaning in the most appropriate medium and genre
  • control language (written, spoken/signed and visual) using grammar, punctuation
  • vocabulary and spelling

English involves students in a range of speaking, reading, writing, listening and viewing activities to:
  • become independent, knowledgeable and critical users of language
  • become life-long learners
  • appreciate, enjoy and engage with texts ranging from popular culture to traditional
  • literature
  • become critical thinkers.​
Students will complete 4 assessment tasks per year:
  1. Imaginative written narrative
  2. Spoken persuasive speech
  3. Analytical essay-style response
  4. Reflective/Persuasive speech
Assessments from Year 7 will build student capability,
