Redlynch State School has a proud history of academic success, sporting prowess, community support and parent involvement. The school was first opened on the original site in 1932 on Intake Road. It opened with an enrolment of eighty students after five years of lobbying by the local rural community. A strong community link has been a recurrent feature of the school community. It was again evident when the planning and building of the new school was undertaken in 1994. The new site, once a sugar cane farm, further along Intake Road, opened its doors with an enrolment of one hundred and eighty students and has continued to experience considerable growth. Changing times indeed! Dad spoke of riding his horse down a dirt track to school. My brother Graham in the 50's rode his push bike along the very same road. My children Stacey, Taneale and Zoe were driven by car to school along the same road, which is now a busy access road for the whole valley. Arbor Day 1932 saw the children of Redlynch State School plant Camphor Laurel trees at the front gate of the old Redlynch School. A stand of Maple trees were planted in the late 40's early 50's and rainforest species were planted as a feature in 1986. The school was relocated further along Intake Road in 1994 and the 'green theme' was continued. A rainforest habitat was established, the children's vegetables from the school garden win first prizes at the Cairns Show on a regular basis and the school has been successful in the Cairns City Council Garden Awards.
