Redlynch State College has a reputation as being one of the first choice education providers for students and their families in the Cairns area. Our College provides an environment where everyone sees themselves as a learner and thinks about each person’s future as a successful member of society.
Our motto – On the Tracks to Success
In the early days as a small school, Redlynch State School students and teachers would greet and wave to passengers on the Kuranda Scenic Train every morning as a tradition. This tradition became the school’s Motto – On The Tracks To Success whereby students would work to their best abilities to be 'on track' for their futures. Our Motto has remained and grown into our Vision and School Wide Philosophy.
Our vision – Learning in Our Valley. Thinking Beyond the Hills.
At Redlynch State College we are all life-long learners and we model this to all students to instil a love of learning. Our goal is to foster optimal individual learning through our Prep to Year 12 seamless curriculum starting in our foundational Prep to Year 2 area into our Junior Primary Years 3 to 6, flowing into our Junior Secondary Years 7 to 9 and then our Senior Secondary Years 10 to 12. We are continuously thinking beyond the hills with our aim of every student achieving paid employment, a trade apprenticeship, or further studies in the trades or university. The community spirit from the early days as a community school has remained with a friendly and inviting feel to the College. Learning in our valley makes the connection between valleys as being safe havens in nature and our safe learning and working environment. We believe that our daily interactions have direct impact on the future lives of all stakeholders. Our approach to teaching and the rapport and relationships we develop with students impacts on their learning in a positive way.
Our school wide ethos – Relationships, Success, Connections, Equity, Quality (R.S.C.E.Q)
- Relationships – With Self | Family | Friends | School | Community
- Success - Is achieving our goals.
- Connections - Linking school, home, community and the world.
- Equity - Giving everyone the opportunity to succeed.
- Quality - Is being your best and taking pride.
School Behavioural Expectation Matrix
Education Queensland and Redlynch State College are committed to provisions that ensure all young Queenslanders have a right to and receive a quality education. Redlynch State College creates a supportive school environment where all people feel respected, safe and are committed to learning.
A positive learning environment is created by building on quality relationships with students and parents. Our approach to developing responsible behaviour is focused on these positive relationships and takes place in a caring, supportive environment. We believe that self-control is necessary for children’s welfare and happiness and their ability to function effectively in society.
Students are encouraged to manage their thinking and own their behaviours and it is expected that they develop self-discipline and take responsibility for their actions. The values that drive and influence all our decisions are:
- Respect
- Safety
- Commitment to Learning and Wellbeing
The values and beliefs are embedded in the curriculum and expressed through our learning outcomes. All are inter-related and, without all three in place, the College would not function effectively. It is expected that all members of our school community will consistently display our values and beliefs in all actions. These values and beliefs are the foundation of our Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students. Our Responsible Behaviour Plan will be available for all parents to peruse and sign at the enrolment interview.
