My name is Jean-Luc Karpinski and I am a German exchange student who spent two and a half years at Redlynch State College in Cairns, Queensland.
I have exclusively positive things to say about this school and the overall experience of being an exchange student in Redlynch. Not only were the staff incredibly welcoming, warm and helpful but all the staff members responsible for international students also constantly and actively helped me pursue my educational and social success.
All the teachers whom I had the pleasure to share a classroom with seemed like they were genuinely concerned for the students’ academic success and education. Additionally, I could tell that they all like their job which furthers the opportunity of creating a supportive environment. I cannot emphasise enough how overachieving all the staff were, even helping me outside of school hours and greeting me with a smile, always.
Connecting with students was also very easy at this socially, very compact college. When I first arrived my “buddy” assigned by the school was great and showed me around the school and introduced me to different people, he is a very good friend to this day. Everyone was incredibly open and I could just go and talk to anyone without it being awkward in this tight knit community of our cohort. I for sure made lifelong friends in RSC. One of my many highlights was becoming a House Captain in my final year and taking out Redlynch’s annual Swimming Carnival!
If you have the opportunity of attending Redlynch State College as an international student I strongly advise you to do so. It is an experience which will improve your confidence, your English, your social skills, your responsibility and the list goes on. RSC made the last two and a half years the best years of my life.
