Sharyn has been dedicated employee of Education Queensland since 1992, contributing her expertise primarily in the south-east corner of Queensland and the Sunshine Coast regions. Trained in Chemistry, Science, Music, and Information Technology, she boasts a versatile teaching background across multiple subject areas. She taught in 6 different high schools before moving to Cairns in 2000 to take up the position of Head of Mathematics at Smithfield SHS.
Joining Redlynch State College in 2010 as the Head of Mathematics, Sharyn's dedication and leadership shone through, transitioning into the position of Deputy Principal by 2018 and securing her permanency in 2022. Her commitment extends beyond the classroom as she actively engages and immerses herself with the school community, assisting for many years with annual school musicals, evenings, camps and fetes.
Throughout her tenure at Redlynch, Sharyn has been a staunch advocate for the college's RACE Programs, demonstrating her unwavering support for State Education and student enrichment beyond traditional academics. Her husband, Robert Crookes, serves as the Head of Performing Arts, while her daughter has been a student at the college since Year 3, actively participating in two of the RACE programs as well.
Outside of her professional endeavours, Sharyn has broad areas of interest and is a proud member of the Cairns Choral Society Choir. She also plays flute, piccolo, saxophone and cello. Attempting to keep fit while raising three children and two Dobermans, she also enjoys her weekly Parkrun, both water and snow skiing, camping, and travelling at every opportunity.
