Mathematics is a subject that develops problem-solving, logical reasoning, and real-world application skills. Our program covers the essential areas of number, algebra, measurement, space, statistics, and probability, helping students build strong numeracy foundations.
We offer a structured learning experience where students develop mathematical proficiency and fluency with the concepts, skills, procedures and processes needed to interpret contexts, choose ways to approach situations using mathematics, and to reason and solve problems arising from these situations.
Mathematics is a compulsory core subject for students in Years 7 -12 at Redlynch State College. We offer a range of pathways to ensure that all students receive the appropriate level of challenge and support to achieve success in Mathematics.
Years 7–9
All students study the core Mathematics curriculum as outlined in the Australian Curriculum.
- A Junior Essential Mathematics class is available in Years 7, 8, and 9 for students requiring additional support to access the core curriculum.
- In Years 8 and 9, high-achieving students may be selected for Mathematics Extension classes.
Year 10
Students continue to engage in the Australian curriculum, with the option of choosing from three Mathematics pathways based on their ability and future academic or career goals:
- 10 Short Course in Numeracy
- Core Mathematics
- Extension Mathematics
Years 11–12
Senior students select from four Mathematics subjects aligned with their skills and postschool aspirations:
- Essential Mathematics
- General Mathematics
- Mathematical Methods
- Specialist Mathematics
This structured approach ensures that all students receive the appropriate level of challenge and support to achieve success in Mathematics.
