Who can take part?
R.A.C.E. Music is open to students in Years 5–12 who demonstrate strong musical ability, potential and commitment through the application and audition process.
Students may be instrumentalists, vocalists, singer-songwriters or multi-instrumentalists and may come from either a formally trained or self-taught background.
As students progress through Secondary School, R.A.C.E. Music is designed to complement their classroom Music studies, providing additional opportunities to extend their practical, creative and performance skills.
What does the program look like?
R.A.C.E. Music is a highly practical program where students learn through making, creating and performing music.
Students develop the skills to rehearse and perform confidently as both soloists and ensemble musicians, collaborate with other young musicians, explore contemporary repertoire and develop their own musical ideas.
As students progress through the program, they build on these foundations through increasingly challenging live performances, creative projects and recording experiences. Students also have opportunities to work in a professional recording studio environment, developing an understanding of the processes involved in taking music from rehearsal through to a finished recording.
What will students experience?
Students may have opportunities to:
- perform as a soloist and ensemble musician
- explore contemporary, pop, rock and popular repertoire
- collaborate with other musicians, vocalists and creatives
- develop skills in songwriting, composition and arranging
- participate in professional recording studio experiences
- perform at a range of school and community events
