What is R.A.C.E. Drama?
R.A.C.E. Drama is an extension program for students in Years 5 to 12, who have been identified as being gifted and talented in the subject area of Drama. The program offers students the opportunity to extend and enhance their skills with like-minded peers, at an accelerated pace. Students will be involved in a specialised program which provides a range of extra-curricular opportunities for performances. Students express themselves in a safe, fun and practical environment which leads to self-development of a highly confident, highly skilled drama student.
The R.A.C.E. Drama program also provides students with real and viable pathways connecting students to the Performing Arts Industry both at a local and national level.
Who can take part?
R.A.C.E. Drama students will need to complete a written application form and attend an audition. It is highly recommended they select classroom Drama as an elective subject.
What does the course look like? Students will extend dramatic abilities through working on voice, movement and acting skills. Students will perform a one act play for a small audience in Semester 1. They will then perform in the duologues section of the Cairns Junior Eisteddfod, competing against and connecting with other schools in the region. Each year will culminate in the annual Showcase performance. As well as the performance opportunities students will experience, they are exposed to various live theatre productions throughout the year to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the art form. This unique opportunity within the school, allows young people to strive
