What is R.A.C.E. Dance?
R.A.C.E. Dance is a specialised dance program for students with a strong interest, ability and passion for dance.
The program provides a pathway from foundational dance development through to accelerated performance training, with a focus on Jazz, Contemporary/Lyrical and Ballet technique. Students develop technique, artistry, confidence and performance skills through regular training, rehearsals, workshops and performance opportunities.
Students may work with dance teachers and industry professionals and represent Redlynch State College at school, community and competitive events, culminating in the annual R.A.C.E. Showcase at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre.
Who can take part?
R.A.C.E. Dance offers three levels of training for students in Years 4–12, allowing dancers to enter and progress at a level suited to their experience, ability and stage of development.
Entry is through an application and audition process, with placement based on dance ability, potential, commitment and readiness for the expectations of each program.
Which R.A.C.E. Dance program is right for me?
Dance Development Program | Years 4–7
A welcoming foundation program for students from a range of dance backgrounds and experience levels.
Students develop Ballet and Jazz technique, creativity, confidence and performance skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment, while participating in school and community performances.
This program provides a strong foundation for students who may wish to progress into Intermediate R.A.C.E. Dance.
Intermediate R.A.C.E. Dance | Years 5–9
A focused training and performance program for dancers wanting to extend their technique, performance skills and confidence.
Students learn and perform Jazz and Contemporary/Lyrical repertoire and represent Redlynch State College at community performances, dance festivals and competitions.
Recommended for: Recreational or syllabus/exam-trained dancers who are ready for additional challenge and committed to developing their skills as part of a team.
Senior R.A.C.E. Dance | Years 8–12
An accelerated program for committed dancers wanting to further develop their technique, artistry, performance quality and leadership skills.
Students perform technically challenging Jazz and Contemporary repertoire and represent Redlynch State College at community events, festivals and competitions.
Recommended for: Syllabus/exam-trained dancers who are highly motivated, demonstrate strong technical foundations and work well within a team environment.
What will students experience?
Students may have opportunities to:
- develop Jazz, Contemporary/Lyrical and Ballet technique
- learn and perform as part of a dance troupe
- participate in workshops and intensive training
- work with dance teachers and industry professionals
- perform at school, community and competitive events
- perform at the annual R.A.C.E. Showcase
- develop confidence, teamwork, resilience and leadership
- explore pathways into senior Dance, further study and the performing arts industry
Enrolment
Students must be enrolled at Redlynch State College to participate.
Entry into all three programs is through an application and audition process. Secondary students participating in R.A.C.E. Dance are encouraged to select classroom Dance as an elective subject to further support their development.
